When did you start djaying?
I started ‘djaying’ at the age of 17. Then I was still in a technical college. I remember very well back then, I used to sneak spoilt radios into the school, take out their speakers and reconstruct the speakers to fit into a custard bucket. This is just for the sound to be able to fill up the room and then entertain my roommates.
How long have you been djaying?
I have been djaying for 12 years now, but professionally for 6 years.
What kind of equipment did you start with?
I started with an HP laptop, which was a gift from Mova industrial designs Abuja after i completed my industrial training with them. My big brother’s friend was in a band, so that gave me free access to speakers and amplifiers that the band uses for shows and events. So, basically, that was the equipment I started djaying with.
What kind of equipment do you play with now?
Now I work with the best sound equipment in the market. I use all digital and acoustic DJ sets.
Where do you spin usually?
As a freelance DJ and a sound engineer, I play a lot in high-profile events and high-profile gigs.
What inspires you?
I get my inspiration from people around me and my family
Have you ever played in front of 1000 people?
I have played in front of over 2000 people at the MA DENGN festival by Airtel in Freetown Sierra Leone and also several weddings and concerts that had over 1000 persons in attendance here in Nigeria.
You are also a music artist?
Yes I am, and also a producer
Being a DJ, what has it taught you about making music – and as a music artist, what has it taught you about djing?
Being a Dj taught me that every song has its own listeners no matter how wacky you think the record sounds. Being a musical artist/producer also taught me how important it is to listen and know your songs before playing them out to your audience as a DJ.
You are among the top 10 winners of fire on the mixer DJ contest 2017 held in Abuja, how did you feel and in few words, what will you say about the show?
Fire on the mixer was not just a DJ competition, it was a great show. It was dope. It was a DJ contest that nobody was upset about the winner, rather everybody celebrated the winner. For the record, fire on the mixer made me improve my DJ skills.
What is the major challenge you encounter, especially in this pandemic?
My major challenge in this pandemic was the fact that I could not DJ outside my house.
What was your favourite local party before the pandemic?
The hooker pool party in Abuja. It was dope, I was the perfect piece for that event. I kept my audience dancing, screaming and pointing fingers in the air all night long.
